Dr. Bay Jones is a cisgender female and a multiracial California native—born and raised in the South Bay. She attended California public schools through her BA degree and went on to complete her Master’s degree and PhD in Massachusetts and North Carolina. She’s taught various grade levels, kindergarten through Master’s degree students around the country.

While working for the Southern Poverty Law Center in Montgomery, Alabama, Dr. Jones oversaw national programs, helping teachers and administrators become more culturally literate about poverty/justice/equity issues through her work with the Teaching Tolerance division. She currently works locally in Sonoma County on issues of equity and institutional effectiveness and teaches courses on these topics.

Her research advocates for longitudinal, qualitative models that disaggregate data to arrive at meaningful information, which is useful to identify success gaps and rates of stop-out and exclusion from elementary school through to the graduate school level. A wife and mother of two bilingual (Spanish/English), multiracial children—Dr. Jones is proud to call Sonoma County home.
